Why interested in realities of war?

Why am I interested in war ?

Why am I interested in the reality of war? It's because I am from a military family. My father served(he is retired now with NO injury or stress) in Iraq and Afghanistan, my grandfather in Vietnam, my father's grandfather in World War 2. Since I am only thirteen, I am not old enough to join the Army but I still imagine what it will be like when I do. I have seen the movies, the news reels, the videos shot by soldiers in the heat of combat, and heard the stories of what it is like in war but I want to experience it my self. I know war will never be a walk in the park, now short victories, but instead the loss of friends, the chaos battle, the pain I will go through if I do sign up, and the fear of being killed. The book WAR, by Sebastian Junger, is an excellent detail of a civilian put into a platoon of experienced soldiers. It is a true story of his fifteen months in the Korengal Valley located in North Eastern Afghanistan.
I am interested in all wars America fought in but World War 2, Afghanistan, and Iraq are the ones I am most interested in. I am also interested in the weapons, tactics and , most importantly, the stories of the men who fought them. I know war is not the glories adventure propaganda will have me believe but death and destruction of lives and infrastructure. That is why am writing a book on the realities of war through the eyes of a fictional character to see how much I know and how much I am right, or wrong on the realities of war.
